The idea for this project came from one image – my daughter, staring straight down the camera, bright blue sky and pale green hat framing her sandy face, hair flying sideways in the sea breeze. It made me think of my own childhood, days spent at the beach with my family on holidays away, or my grandparents between school terms at home. Busy mornings swimming and playing, followed by late afternoon walks before dinner. The smell of sunscreen, the pleasant warmth of a sunburn, towels and hair stiff with salt.
This series is an attempt to capture the feeling of those moments; a coastal childhood.
